State of the Site
Okay, just so everyone knows what happened and what is going to happen. Yesterday I tried to bring the old IJ server up as a second webserver to help the load. There were some problems with libraries causing a lot of things to break. So I rolled the change back, unfortunately I had to clear out some S1 style customizations so some of your journals may look funny. If you go back to the customize page you should be able to reset all of your style options.

Today I just ordered a new server to move IJ to. This one has about 4x the horsepower are the current one, so it will help alleviate the load. We are going to be moving the site to the newer bigger server asap. We don't forsee any issues, but we do recommend that you backup any icons and keep note of any S1 customizations.

I want to thank EVERYONE for coming over here and having patience with our growing pains. If you talk to anyone who came over in the June/July migration, they will tell you that we had the same growing pains, but we were able to move to a bigger server and weather the storm.

Thank YOU! And thank you for doing all that you do. I've been watching the statistics page both here and at LJ, and it looks like IJ's creation rate was within less than a thousand of LJ's in one day. It's amazing at how fast it's growing AND how much you outclass all the other journal sites.

Of course we have patience! The new server sounds good, I hope the paid accounts pay for this (and hopefully a nice holiday for you and Mrs Squeaky as well!). If it goes as smoothly as last time, I think everybody will be happy.

You know, instant information can make people live with a lot of things, and this is absolutely no problem. We can take a little downtime in exchange for a human being in charge of the servers. ;0)

It shocks me every time I see how understanding people can be as long as I tell everyone what's going on.

If LJ had thought that out by themselves, I think they could have managed to implement all of the odd implementations without all the fuss. :D

When you get the new servers, it would be really nice if you could let us preview our icons before making a post\commenting :)

I'd rather have too much information than not enough. You are soundly trumping the current LJ management staff in that respect.

FWIW I didn't notice too many performance issues other than some broken images that a clearing of my cache fixed quite nicely. Expect to see a perm account purchase from me very, very soon. Don't change a thing about how you handle issues like this. Many sites, not just LJ, could learn a lot from your methods.

I just wanted to thank you for starting InsaneJournal and for posting that reassuring welcome letter last May. I just read it tonight, after starting up a free account.

After I read some of the posts in the [info]07refugees community, I became a lot more alarmed than I was and went ahead tonight and purchased a permanent account. This is the safe place I was looking for.

How did you get the theme that you are using here? I know that there are not as many themes here as at LiveJournal; but I'd rather have freedom and not as much fancy stuff than the scary censorship and lots of bells and whistles. Oh, that sounds like a backhanded compliment. It's not. I am sure I'm going to love it here!

Thanks!
