More About Ads
After the testing over this weekend and the feedback we've already received. We have decided it's in the best interest of the site to no longer continue using full page ads on entry pages. These ads have been disabled, though it may take a few hours for them to stop showing on the site.

We are, however, going to continue having them on profile pages for the time being.

In addition we are looking into a different ad network, as we aren't totally happy with the one we are using. Hopefully we will be switching within the next week.

In addition, about the virus warnings. I have looked into these, they are not alerts about actual malware being installed on your machine. Apparently AVG has a database of sites that they deem to be unsafe, one of the full page ads has been pointing to a site that AVG determines is a "Social Engineering" risk. This means that the site is potentially trying to convince you to give away personal information, not actually install a virus or tracking cookie on your PC.

Please understand that InsaneJournal would never knowingly accept any ads that would install harmful software on our users' PCs. That is just counter-intuitive to the business we are trying to continue to build.

Please feel free to use this thread for any further feedback.

Thanks

Thank you for the changes and information. Any way we can lose the flashing ads? I don't mind the idea of advertisements (though I'm considering getting a paid account to avoid them) but it's hard to write when your eyes are drawn to something blinking at a high rate on the screen (let alone for a Russian bride). They'd be less bothersome if they were static.

The fact you are actually holding these discussions is one of the main reasons I want to stand by IJ so much. If I could "Like" this, I would.

Thank you. I'm fine with the ads being on profiles.

Just to let you know? I have dial-up and Norton anti-virus scan. After the changes to the site, I was constantly being taken to the same error page when trying to access entries & navigating IJ while using my free accounts. (Unless I hit stop quickly several times, but that would mean that pages and comments would not fully load.) I checked quickly just now, and am no longer getting an error page.

It may be an issue with the dial-up and the ads not being compatible. It could very well be the virus scan's way of trying to protect the system from something it sees as harmful. For now, I'll do most of my navigating with my perm account. But I wanted to bring it up in case anyone else runs into the same problem.

Thanks again for listening to your users.

I definitely prefer them on profile pages as opposed to in journals/on comment pages, so thanks for that!

If people don't want to see ads, install Firefox's adblock. I don't have a paid account but I see no ads on this site thanks to that.

If there's any way that the ads chosen could be ones that are less...provcative? That would be amazing! Right now I have women wearing barely any clothing (they're animated for a video game, not real people, but still), and I've been seeing the Russian women one a lot too. I'd hate to have to stop checking from work out of paranoia of what might pop up on the screen :/ (I have AdBlock Plus, but I still see the ads at the tops and bottoms of entries)

The site seems super slow since you changed ad providers. Getting the blank white screen a lot today. Also, I keep getting a message that InsaneJournal is trying to redirect me to somewhere else.

Thank you Squeaky for, as others have said, listening to your userbase and adjusting things to make people happy when you're able. IJ is great, I'd hug it and you if I could.

As far as feedback goes, I might second some of the content requests, though if you're using a company that selects the ads and offers a package deal, you may not have the option to veto Russian brides. I won't even get into the idea of who on earth would click from IJ to a mail order bride site and actually get one...

I ended up getting a Trojan Google Redirect Virus on my computer a few days ago, shortly after I was taken to an ad site by one of the ads that popped up from IJ. I barely go anywhere online other than IJ and Facebook so I don't know if I got it from one of those ads or not but it's now a major pain in the rear and I'm not sure I can even remove it without wiping my whole computer. The ads that are up now are a lot better than the old ones though, for certain.

Hello.

I just wanted to let you notice that the current ads do no have (or very few at least) international advertisers, so the non-US traffic is not monetized.

Here are a list of ad networks that I believe have international reach :
- cpxinteractive.com
- globaltakeoff.net
- advertising.yahoo.com
- tribalfusion.com
- kitaramedia.com
- valueclickmedia.com
- infolinks.com
- advertising.com
- adroll.com

Now, take your feather duster and remove the cobwebs, first (if there are any). You must always start the cleaning process from the top-down of every room. Removing the cobwebs shouldn’t take you more than a minute. tenancy cleaning After getting rid of the cobwebs, dust the chandelier and the furniture with the same feather duster. This task shouldn’t take you more than a minute, too. This means that you have three more minutes.
